WELLNESS SEMINAR NUMBER 4

POLICE SCOTLAND - WELLBEING IN THE WORKPLACE

Today I delivered the fourth and final session in this series of wellbeing workshops alongside the insightful Ali Garrow, Mandy, Laura and their support team. A complete pleasure and privilege to team up with them and offer something towards the work they do. Thank you guys for inviting me along and thanks to each and every person attending. A relaxed, light and enjoyable day.

SCOTTISH CLINICAL LEAD FELLOWS

SCOTTISH CLINICAL LEAD FELLOW SCHEME

When I was asked to present to the SCLF Fellows I had limited knowledge of who they were and set to work finding out. The first paragraph of my google search caught my attention.

'A prestigious scheme open to trainees in Scotland who have the ambition and curiosity to push their development to new heights at the leading edge'

That caught my interest but not half as much as the morning I spent with this fabulous group of health professionals at the end of May. Wow - what an energy and powerful group.

A few weeks later ........ a surprise in the form of fizz as a thank you for delivering their communication session. I anticipate a bit of a hangover with this one!!

SCOTTISH AND SOUTHERN ELECTRICITY NETWORKS

SCOTTISH AND SOUTHERN ELECTRICITY NETWORKS
Today I was gifted an insight into the care and consideration SSE give to their staff to ensure they all get home safely. They bring a new dimension and a fresh approach to H&S which incorporates wellbeing and smart discussions about how their teams connect and work together.

My inner self was jumping for joy as having such an open minded group of people with a forward thinking approach is a true investment.

My contribution focussed on communication tactics that can be incorporated to reduce tension and anxiety at work (and maybe at home 😉)

Thank you to everyone who added to the session. A particular thank you to Mark MacDonald, Head of Operational Support for inviting me to present today.

ALWAYS A PRIVILEGE

A PRIVILEGE TO PRESENT
It is always a pleasure, and on this occasion a privilege to support my former colleagues in the work they do. This week I attended the 3rd in a series of four Police Scotland Wellbeing Seminars where I offered some suggestions on managing challenging conversations. At times, the thought of having a difficult conversation can create anxiety and stress and thankfully there are a few handy communication tactics which can help.

Congratulations to Ali Donald and his team for creating an opportunity and environment where wellbeing can be explored, discussed and embraced. I look forward to the fourth and final event next month.

SO NEAR YET SO FAR

I guess its a luxury problem but after two weeks away from home on a whirlwind ‘communication fest’ it would have been good to arrive home this afternoon.

The first flight was cancelled and the second delayed which means arriving in Edinburgh in the early hours. As I reflect on an amazing two weeks I am lucky - I met and worked with so many captivating people and there are a few new friends along the way ..... I appreciate it all.

WHAT AN EXCEPTIONAL FEW DAYS
From the moment I walked in to the Openwork Gathering at their Business Owner Forums in London and Nottingham I was welcomed and included at every turn. A unique insight into the role of financial advisory profession and the amazing work they do. More importantly the care and consideration that goes in to all they do alongside the sense of responsibility to get things right was clear for all to see. A complete pleasure to present alongside the amazing Michael Caulfield MSc and thank you Chris Barnes for your warmth, humour and skilful management of the sessions. A true joy to work with you all.

2 DAY COMMUNICATION MASTERCLASS CAPTURED IN 3 MINUTES

Canada 2019 was magical in every way possible and following on from last year’s event we were brave enough to invite an additional former negotiator to the team. A former FBI colleague and good friend Winnie joined us and added an extra dimension to the inputs and practicals which everyone found beneficial in so many ways.

A truly happy few days with Andrea Hayes, Winnie and a group of 10 enthusiastic attendees. The event was amazing for everyone.
