A THANK YOU TO THE EDITOR

Following a request from LMA Editor Alice Hoey, it was a privilege to contribute to her recent article about negotiation and finding the middle ground. Core Emotional Concerns (the brain child of Professor's Shapiro and Fisher) along with a few suggestion on how to apply them practically hits the mark every time as a template for any negotiation and I was delighted that Alice featured this strongly within the article.

The LMA Institute stands for Excellence Through Insight and this is porttrayed so well within the magazine.

Thanks to The Goddess Formula who connected Alice and I through their network.

THE WORLDS OF ACADEMIA AND PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE MEET

THE WORLDS OF ACADEMIA AND PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE MEET
With years of practical experience from which to coach and guide others, it is a joy when that practice meets the academic excellence of Universities and today was an inspiring day amongst sharp and talented people.

Delivering a masterclass at St Andrews University was a day to remember and one I enjoyed greatly. Thank you ladies and gents for all you contributed, learned and shared today

GOOD LUCK GREIG

As a way of giving something back I sponsor an amateur athlete each year.  Greg Farmer is 2018's athlete and has been training hard for Triathlon X which takes place this weekend. A grand distance of 140 miles over mountains makes it one of the worlds toughest

Greig has trained for 2 years and is as inspiring a person as you can find. He fits training around work and family with impressive organisational skills, lots of notes on the kitchen wall and a focused determination that will undoubtedly be tested and conquered this weekend.

In addition, Greig is also also raising awareness and funds for Scotland's air ambulance. (SCAA) Once Triathlon X is in the bag he will compete in AJ Bells London Triathlon in August ..... as a cool down :-)

To Greig, Katherine and the girls - The Art of Communication is behind you all the way and I cannot wait to hear the stories and experiences when you return home.  Cathy x

RISKY BUSINESS LONDON CALLING

Being asked to present at The Risky Business Conference in London was an honour.  Chatting with key figures who had accomplished so many amazing things in their life, watching other talks and meeting wonderful people - every part of it was impressive.

I work where 'word of mouth recommendations' take me and this was one of those moments where I had to pinch myself.  The theme of the conference which took the form of 20 minute "TED style talk's was reducing risk and the full two days was a whirlwind of magical moments.

A true Art of Communication highlight

COMMUNICATION CORNER COMES TO LIFE

Issue 5 of the Lift The Bar Magazine for fitness professionals.  This time we discuss having those challenging conversations.  If there is an elephant in the room then its time to remove it .... there is seldom enough room and if it doesn't move out,  it simply gets bigger :-)

A CLASSY B&W SORT OF DAY

Dr Alyson Walker at The Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow was the super busy event coordinator for today.  Inviting 80 of her colleagues to a morning on Positivity, Civility and Safety it was standing room only as the morning progressed.  I had the privilege of presenting alongside Michael Murray, Deirde Conway and Emma Plunkett and positivity reigned.

An inspiring day with a team of amazing professionals who give more of themselves than any of us will truly realise.  Congratulations Alyson

TEAM TALK AT EDINBURGH UNIVERSITY

Screen Shot 2018-04-18 at 15.39.59.png

EVERY good team needs to talk - talk about what works, what doesn't work, the joys and the challenges.  So how do we all do that and make it easy on each other?  Today's topics covered tactics that teams can use to help speak about things that matter in a way that is helpful and productive.

When teams work well there can be chaos around them and they will be united and focussed despite that turmoil.  Today's team care about each other, work hard,  have focus and all it takes to be an effective and influential team. Now they also have a few handy tactics should they ever need them.  Great discussions all round - thank you Edinburgh University
